[ 2nd Quarter of fiscal 2012 Performance Briefing ]Recording Device Business
Mr. Atsuo Kobayashi
Senior Vice President
Good afternoon. I’m Atsuo Kobayashi, General Manager of TDK’s Recording Device business.
Let me report on our fiscal 2012 interim results and fiscal 2012 full-year forecasts.
I’d like to begin with HDD head shipments in indexed terms. Assuming the first quarter of fiscal 2011 was 100, then the first quarter of fiscal 2012 was 95 and the second quarter was 99. For the third quarter of fiscal 2012 we are unfortunately projecting a sharp drop to 73, due to the impact of recent flooding in Thailand. However, we expect shipments to rebound to 106 in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012.
Next, I’d like to look at our sales in the first half of fiscal 2012 and our sales projections for the full year. Whereas in fiscal 2011 net sales for the first and second quarters were ¥71.7 billion and ¥65.3 billion, respectively, which resulted in first-half net sales of ¥137.0 billion, in fiscal 2012 net sales for the first and second quarters were ¥55.2 billion and ¥53.3 billion, respectively, for interim net sales of ¥108.5 billion. For the second half of fiscal 2011, we recorded net sales of ¥120.5 billion, meaning full-year net sales were ¥257.5 billion. Unfortunately, however, because of the flooding in Thailand, we are only projecting net sales for fiscal 2012 of ¥198.4 billion. This forecast assumes second-half net sales of ¥89.9 billion, with a recovery in the fourth quarter.
That concludes my presentation. Thank you.
