One year to go until the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25

September 13, 2024

Today (September 13) marks exactly one year before the start of the 20th World Athletics Championships.

The World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 (WCH Tokyo 25) will be held from September 13 (Sat) to 21 (Sun), 2025.

It will be the third time for the World Athletics Championships to take place in Japan and the second time in Tokyo, after a hiatus of 34 years. Held in Tokyo in 1991, the 3rd World Championships in Athletics, as the games were called then, saw new world records set by Carl Lewis in the men’s 100 m (9.86 seconds), the US team in the men’s 4 x 100 m relay (37.50 seconds), and Mike Powell in the men’s long jump (8.95 m). Furthermore, Japan’s Hiromi Taniguchi triumphed in the men’s marathon, winning the first gold medal by a Japanese at these games.

Exceeding the Olympics, WCH Tokyo 25 is scheduled to feature top athletes from about 210 countries and regions, with a total of around 2,000 athletes competing in 49 events (24 women’s, 24 men’s, and 1 mixed).

TDK is supporting WCH Tokyo 25 as an official partner. TDK will bring excitement to the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 by supporting the athletes from around the world who continue to transform themselves through rigorous training, as well as all who are involved.

The Japan National Stadium in Tokyo, the venue for WCH Tokyo 25, will be the scene of heated competition among top athletes from around the world from September 13 to 21, 2025.
