TDK Corporation (TSE:6762) announces the introduction of Mega Stock, an adsorbent thermal storage system developed by Takasago Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. (TSE:1969), and has put this system into operation at the TDK Corporation Honjo Factory West site (Yuri-Honjo City, Akita Prefecture), a factory that produces multilayer ceramic capacitors, in January 2024.

The overall goals of the TDK Group are to create a more effective use of energy and expand the use of renewable energy toward the realization of net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050, to provide products and solutions to create clean energy and realize a zero-carbon society, and to provide products and solutions to realize an energy-efficient society by storing, converting, and controlling energy. TDK currently champions net-zero CO₂ emissions through its entire supply chain.

In this context, TDK is introducing Takasago Thermal Engineering's adsorbent thermal storage system, Mega Stock, at its Honjo Factory West site to recover and store exhaust heat generated in the product manufacturing process. The system then delivers this heat to the external air treatment unit, which is then dissipated and reused as a heat source for the external unit. Introducing this system allows for an estimated on-site reduction of 249 tons of CO₂ annually, corresponding to 5% reduction in on-site CO₂ emissions.

In addition to the future use of exhaust heat as a heat source in the production process, TDK is also looking into offering this heat source to public facilities, hospitals, hot springs, and more near the factory. Furthermore, TDK is considering the introduction of Mega Stock at other factories in Japan and will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by promoting initiatives to save energy.
