Mr. Atsuo Kobayashi
Senior Vice President

I’m Atsuo Kobayashi, General Manager of TDK’s HDD heads business. I’d like to discuss the performance of the recording device business in fiscal 2012, the year ended March 31, 2012.

Sales in the fourth quarter rose 1.2% year on year to ¥58.2 billion, as they recovered from the impact of the floods in Thailand. For the full year, therefore, we recorded sales of ¥208.7 billion, with sales of ¥108.5 billion and ¥100.2 billion in the first and second halves, respectively. This represented an 18.9% year on year decrease. The speed of the recovery in sales in the fourth quarter from the third quarter, which was affected by the Thailand floods, was largely as we had expected.

Moving onto the HDD head shipment index, assuming the first quarter of fiscal 2011 was 100, the first quarter of fiscal 2012 was 95 and the second quarter was 99. The third quarter dropped to 80 because of the impact of the Thailand floods, but recovered to 104 in the fourth quarter. For the first quarter of fiscal 2013, at this time we are projecting 118. In fiscal 2012, around 600 million HDDs were shipped. The projection for fiscal 2013 is for shipments of around 700 million.

That concludes my presentation. Thank you.
