[ 3rd Quarter of fiscal 2012 Performance Briefing ]Recording Device Business
Mr. Atsuo Kobayashi
Senior Vice President
General Manager of Data Storage & Thin Film Technology Components Business Group
Hello, I’m Atsuo Kobayashi, General Manager of TDK’s HDD heads business.
Our sales in the recording device business in the three months ended December 31, 2011 were ¥42.0 billion, down 33.3% year on year due to the impact of flooding in Thailand. However, we expect to see a rapid rebound in HDD head shipments from the fourth quarter. In fact, we are projecting a 31% increase in sales from the third quarter to ¥55.0 billion. That means our full-year sales projection is ¥205.5 billion. Regarding shipments, using an index where the first quarter of the year ended March 31, 2011 is 100, the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012 was 95, followed by 99 and 80 in the second and third quarters, respectively. For the fourth quarter, we expect to see a sharp increase in the shipment index to 106. Our HDD shipments for the market as a whole in the fiscal year to March 2012 are projected at approximately 600 million units.
That concludes my presentation.
