Mr. Atsuo Kobayashi
Data Storage & Thin Film Technology Components Business Group
I'm Atsuo Kobayashi, General Manager of TDK's head business. I would like to report on the group's first-half sales and projected second-half and full-year sales for fiscal 2009.
First-half sales were \150.1 billion against our previous forecast of \146.1 billion. Second-quarter sales were \77.6 billion. For the second half, we are projecting sales of \147.1 billion, down from our previous forecast of \170.4 billion. For the full year, therefore, our forecast calls for sales of \297.2 billion against our previous forecast of \316.5 billion. While we expect higher volumes, these forecasts also reflect forex movements, price erosion, changes in the product mix and other factors.
In terms of HDD demand, we are currently forecasting total demand of around 570 million units. Total HGA demand is projected at roughly 1.7 billion units and we are aiming for a market share of around 33% as before.
Finally, I would like to look at the schedule for launching new products. We aim to move into mass production of 500GB/P heads for 3.5-inch HDDs from the end of this year to next year. Furthermore, efforts are now being made to qualify 750GB/P heads. Qualification of 250GB/P heads for 2.5-inch HDDs will be completed before the end of this year, and we expect to commence mass production of 320GB/P heads from around midway through next year. We are already mass producing 120GB/P heads for 1.8-inch HDDs and plan to begin mass production of 160GB/P products next year.
That concludes my presentation. Thank you for your attention.
