About TDK | Intellectual PropertyWorld Athletics Championships and the TDK Logo

The World Athletics Championships were held in Tokyo from September 13 to 21, 2025.
This was the first time in 34 years that they were held in Tokyo and the first time in Japan in 18 years, following the Osaka championships in 2007.
TDK has been an official partner of the World Athletics Championships since they began, and ever since the second championships in Rome, the TDK banner has been displayed behind the starting line.

The banner features the letters “TDK” with our hexagonal mark (called the TDK Diamond).
TDK protects these letters, the TDK Diamond, and other elements as trademark rights, which are a type of intellectual property right.

A company’s name and mark do not only have the function of distinguishing its products and services from those of other companies. Its name and mark are also able to, among other things, foster confidence in the quality and other characteristics of the company’s products and preserve the unique image that has been formed by the company, thereby creating differentiation in the market. Considering these capabilities, we believe that TDK’s company name and mark are essential assets that support our competitiveness.

One way of ensuring protection for these capabilities under the law is through trademark rights. These are rights that enable the exclusive use of the text, figures, and other elements used in products and services, and they prevent third parties from producing counterfeit goods and supplying services that use the company's name and mark.

In this way, by being protected by trademark rights, a company’s name and mark can demonstrate their functions of distinguishing the products and services of that company, preserve confidence in the quality and other characteristics of its products, and enhance its earnings through market differentiation. By doing all of the above, a company’s name and mark also contribute to increasing its stock value.

TDK aims to contribute to culture and industry worldwide through our activities. We are also involved in a range of other initiatives, including our support for the World Athletics Championships. As part of our corporate image, we believe that these activities are closely linked to the TDK company name, mark, and other associated elements.
TDK conducts business in many countries around the world, and we view trademark rights as a vital asset for expanding our business, maintaining trust, and enhancing our corporate value. Working closely with other departments, our Intellectual Property Department leads efforts to secure and maintain these rights.
