TDK Replaces Sign in Times Square, New York

December 20, 2010

TDK Corporation has announced that it has replaced its Sign installed on the exterior of the One Times Square building in New York (1 Times Square, New York, NY 10036), upgrading it to a more energy-saving and high-definition model. TDK will switch on the new screen on December 20 (December 21 Japan time) and simultaneously display new contents.

The new LED screen in Times Square is a state-of-the-art high-luminosity model that realizes low power consumption. Compared with existing models, it reduces energy consumed by approximately 30% a year. It also enables the display of high-precision images in the high-vision class.

The new contents employ a visual expression conjuring an image of a circuit board of electronic parts, and the message copy of “TDK Electronic Components” conveys the company’s business domain. They will further promote recognition and understanding of TDK as a leading electronic components manufacturer.

On the occasion of the screen’s opening on December 20 (local time: 17:00), thanks to the kind cooperation of Toshiba Corporation, a special 10-second countdown to the lighting up will be displayed on Toshiba’s LED screen, which is installed right above the TDK screen on the building.

Since the 1980s TDK’s global advertising strategy has been to set up neon and LED billboards at landmark locations in popular tourist spots around the world. As well as Times Square in New York, it currently displays prominent billboards featuring the TDK corporate brand in Piccadilly Circus in London, at the Ginza 4-chome crossing in Tokyo, and in Shanghai, China.

Note: Video of the neon set up in Times Square can be seen on TDK Homepage on December 21 after 9:00 a.m. (Japan time) http://www.global.tdk.com/en/about_tdk/corporate_branding/index.html
