Industry's First* Noise Countermeasure Components for Cell Phones Compatible with Korean Terrestrial Digital Broadcasts
MEA2010PT Series of Multilayer Chip EMI**Filter Arrayss
September 27, 2006
TDK Corporation announces the development of the MEA2010PT series of multilayer chip EMI filter arrays, the industry's first* compact noise countermeasure components designed for mobile terminals compatible with terrestrial digital broadcasts in South Korea (terrestrial DMB broadcasts). Mass production is scheduled to begin in January 2007.
The world's first terrestrial DMB broadcast service began in South Korea in December 2005. In conjunction with this, tuners designed specifically for cell phones were developed, and various Korean terminal manufacturers began selling mobile terminals with these tuners in January 2006. These terminals must handle not only the frequency band used for communications (800 MHz - 2 GHz), but also that for terrestrial DMB broadcasts (180 MHz - 210 MHz), and noise countermeasures for both functions have become extremely important for ensuring stable reception. The new series of filter arrays meet these needs.
These products use optimal materials and pattern designs to achieve ideal noise countermeasures for terrestrial DMB broadcasts. The filter arrays can be used not only for Korean terrestrial DMB broadcasts, but with any tuner that uses frequencies in the 190 MHz range.

Explanation of Terminology
-
**EMI : Electromagnetic Interference. EMI countermeasures refer to measures taken to prevent electronic devices themselves from generating harmful electromagnetic noise. There are also electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) countermeasures to prevent detrimental effects to electronic devices when they are exposed to noise. Together, EMI and EMS countermeasures are referred to as electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) measures. -
Main Features
-
- Effective noise countermeasures of the wide band from 188 MHz to 2 GHz(compatible with South Korean terrestrial DMB broadcast and cell phone frequencies).
- Array includes four π-shaped filters in a thin, compact package (2.0 mm × 1.0 mm × 0.7 mm) suitable for use in cell phones.
- Lead-free, compatible with lead-free solder, conforming to RoHS Directive.
-
