TDK Corporation has received an order from the National Institute of Metrology (NIM) of China, for setting up 10-m and 3-m anechoic chambers as well as other related facilities as part of the EMC project. NIM is the foremost nationwide organization in the People's Republic of China that establishes standards for measurement. TDK is scheduled to commence the construction work at the new research base located in the Changping District in Beijing from October this year, and aims to complete the work by August 2007. The signing ceremony of the contract will be held today in Beijing in the presence of concerned parties.

As far as anechoic chambers are concerned, TDK has already completed projects for setting up 800 such facilities in countries across the world, and is the foremost player in the area in the world. Even within China, TDK has already set up anechoic chamber-related facilities as well as 10m anechoic chambers in 34 locations for mainly private sector corporations in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Harbin. Even so, receiving this order from NIM is especially significant in that TDK selection to be a part of the project is a sign of the recognition of its technical expertise and performance by the Chinese government.

The NIM of China is a national organization that is equivalent to the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology that falls under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan, and as such is at the technology center for the Chinese government. Taking into account that the organization is responsible for the standards of all measurement departments in the different regions of China, it is expected that the facilities to be delivered as part of this project will become one of the important standard for the Chinese government.

The anechoic chambers for which TDK has received the order this time are scheduled to be used for EMC measurements at research centers of NIM in a variety of areas such as industrial machinery, information devices, household appliances, medical machinery and automobiles.

Together with the fervent wish that the delivery of the anechoic chambers form the opportunity to further strengthen cooperative relations between TDK and China, the company will continue in its endeavor to contribute to the industrial development of China.
