TDK Signs Definitive Agreement to Acquire HDD Suspension Manufacturer

TDK Corporation announced that it has signed a definitive agreement on Nov 1, 2015 to acquire HDD suspension manufacturer, Hutchinson Technology Incorporated (”HTI”). HTI will become a TDK Group company whose shares are 100% owned by a TDK subsidiary company in the USA.
HTI manufactures components for HDD suspensions (mount plate, trace-gimbal circuit and stainless steel etching parts) and assembles these components into HDD suspensions, a key component of HDD heads. This acquisition will enhance TDK’s suspension business and overall HDD head business. TDK expects this acquisition to further differentiate the TDK Group and strengthen its competitiveness.
The agreement is subject to HTI shareholder and regulatory approval and is currently expected to be completed during the first calendar quarter of 2016.
