A 3D Magnetic Sensor Immune to Magnetic Interference Enables Autonomous Vehicles to Turn Safely

The quest for autonomous driving calls for automating the fundamental functions of an automobile: running, turning, and stopping. TDK has developed HAL 39xy, a Hall sensor optimal for detecting steering angles, which has been a major challenge in the turning part of autonomous driving. It’s an all-round sensor that offers four sensing modes on a single chip, while achieving immunity to magnetic field interference found on EVs (electric vehicles) or caused by electrification of systems. In addition to steering, the sensor can provide position detection for a variety of other automotive applications, including those for pedals, valves, and gear shifters.
