Sports and TDK
TDK technologies are used in various situations in our lives and throughout society. Sports is one such area. In this exhibit, we explain the contributions that TDK electronic components can make by using the athletics javelin throw event as an example.
Let’s experience IMU sensors!
The IMU sensor installed on a javelin used for the javelin throw is a sensor that combines an acceleration sensor and an angular velocity sensor. The acceleration sensor detects changes in motion, while the angular velocity sensor detects the speed of rotation. When the Smart Bug, a multi-function sensor module equipped with TDK IMU sensors, is activated, it accurately detects the movement and displays it on a graph.
For more details, check the exhibit panels.
TDK and World Athletics have equipped javelins with sensors to make visible data that until now was invisible, such as trajectory, angle, and rotation. This makes watching the sport more enjoyable and also creates new value that leads to enhanced performance by athletes.
TDK’s IMU sensors (motion sensors) can accurately detect the complex movement of a javelin, which has been difficult to measure, and make that movement visible in the form of data.
