Challenge yourself with
the javelin throw in a virtual stadium!
Experience a simulated javelin throw,
an athletics event, using TDK sensor technology.

Press the button at the end of the javelin to start

Throw the javelin straight toward the screen in front of you

The distance will be calculated from the angle and speed of the throw and the results then displayed

The distance will change according to the angle and speed of the throw
A TDK motion sensor (6-axis IMU) is equipped inside the javelin. When a user moves the javelin, this sensor detects that movement and reflects it in the javelin on the screen. Distance in the game is calculated based on the “angle” and “acceleration” of the javelin once it is thrown.
Equipped with TDK motion sensor technology
Motion sensors (6-axis IMU) are sensors capable of detecting acceleration in 3 axes (forward/backward, left/right, and up/down) and angular velocity in 3 axes (forward/backward, left/right, and up/down). They also come equipped in the smartphones we use every day as well as being used in various other scenarios such as map applications.

A commemorative snapshot at the photo spot
A photo spot to allow you to take a picture alongside a monitor displaying the distance you recorded has been made available for your use outside the stadium. Take a picture to remember your glorious record and share it with everyone you know!
Display a full-scale starting board
A full-scale (approx. 9m x 2m) reproduction of the actual LED board used in the World Athletics Championships (the electric bulletin board which serves as the backdrop to the starting line of the 100m sprint event) is on display. Please get an up-close and personal feel for just how big it is.

World Athletics and TDK partner to pioneer visualization of a javelin throw event using sensing technology

In June 2025, TDK Corporation announced its collaboration with World Athletics as an official partner of the World Athletics Championships. TDK thus aims to bring out the charms of javelin throw through technological collaboration. We will do so by applying TDK sensor technology, with the partnership seeking to visualize information that was previously invisible, thereby further increasing the allure of the javelin event and contributing to improvements in the athletes’ performance.
Development and demonstration tests are underway, and a prototype is set to be exhibited at the TDK booth in the Japan National Stadium at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September 2025, along with a detailed technical presentation.

TDK and the World Athletics Championships
This is the moment the athletes have been waiting for, pushing their abilities to the limit, pursuing the passion within to improve and transform themselves. Likewise, we at TDK have continued to take on challenges to push the limits of technology and improve society.
This shared courage, also highlighted in our Corporate Principles, is a major reason TDK supports the World Athletics Championships.
We also want to ensure this passion to pursue better is passed on to the next generation: the children watching the athletes at the World Athletics Championships, encouraged to transform into athletes like them.
We at TDK support everyone inspired by the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 to transform themselves and the world for the better.
