About TDK

Greetings

TDK was founded in 1935 to commercialize ferrite, the world’s first magnetic material, originally invented at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. The company was built on the desire of its founder to create unprecedented value and be of use to the world. Since then, based on our Corporate Motto, “Contribute to culture and industry through creativity,” TDK has worked to respond to constantly changing markets, releasing unique solutions of value to the world.

Today, we are seeing ongoing rapid advances in technologies such as IoT, AI, big data, 5G, and metaverse, as well as the expanding use of renewable energy and the shift to xEVs. In addition, the necessity for efforts to address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to realize a sustainable society, are also accelerating.

Since April 2021, TDK has been advancing Value Creation 2023, its Medium Term Plan, to respond flexibly to these changes and achieve further growth. Under this plan, we are working to contribute to two major social trends, Energy Transformation (EX) and Digital Transformation (DX), and to realize 2CX—Customer Experience and Consumer Experience — by providing solutions that satisfy our customers and by offering consumer experiences that exceed expectations. Through our unique technologies, we also aim to create value for a sustainable society.

TDK holds that nothing is more important in creating that value than quality. The basic philosophy behind quality assurance is “zero defects (zero malfunctions, zero product defects),” on which our pursuit of product quality is based. This effort to improve quality extends beyond products to include everything from the way we work, to regulatory compliance, to our corporate culture, and other aspects of our business, as we work to create social value.

TDK has over 250 locations in more than 30 countries and regions around the world, with approximately 103,000 team members. About 90% of those team members are located outside of Japan. As “TDK United”, TDK is a fusion of companies with their own technologies and cultures around the world. We will make the most of the diverse personalities, experience, and skills of our team members, making them the driving force for our growth. Going forward, TDK will continue to create products and technologies that contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by leveraging the strength of this diverse human capital.
